Getting to Valentia Island

Valentia Island is easy to reach from mainland Ireland. You can arrive by road bridge from Portmagee or take the car ferry from Renard Point near Cahersiveen, which operates from April to October.

By Ferry
The ferry crossing takes about five minutes and runs every ten minutes throughout the day. Services operate seven days a week from April to October between 7:45 am and 9:30 pm, and from 9:00 am on Sundays. In July and August, the final sailing departs at 10:00 pm from Renard.

By Air
The nearest airport is Kerry Airport in Farranfore, which is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes from Valentia Island. Private taxis and car hire are available at the airport, or you can take a bus from Farranfore to Killarney and connect with services to south Kerry.

By Train

By Bus
Bus Éireann route 279A operates year-round between Killarney and Cahersiveen. Local Link Kerry route 287A connects Valentia Island to route 285, providing onward connections from Cahersiveen.
